• History: This Flag Over Farm stamp sheet features an image of farm behind the flag of the United States. 2.2 million farms are located in the United States, which covers an area of 922 million acres.  Corn, cattle, milk, and chickens top the list of major agricultural products, making farmland a staple of the US economy.  The American Flag consists of thirteen equal horizontal stripes of red alternating with white, representing the 13 British colonies that declared independence from Great Britain and became the first states of the Union and a blue rectangle (the "union") bearing fifty small, white, stars. The 50 stars on the flag represent the 50 states currently in the United States of America. Nicknames for the flag include the "Stars and Stripes", "Old Glory", and "The Star-Spangled Banner."
