History: Dwight David "Ike" Eisenhower was a five-star general in the US Army and the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in Europe during World War II. In his position, he was responsible for executing Operation Overlord, which began with the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944, setting into motion the long and bitter campaign to retake Europe from Nazi Germany and the other Axis powers. From 1953 to 1961, he served as the 34th President of the United States. As president, some of his key accomplishments included authorizing the creation of NASA, the Interstate Highway System, and DARPA. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest presidents in American history.
