  • History: Thornton Wilder (April 17, 1897 - December 7, 1975) was an American playwright and author.   Wilder won three Pulitzer Prizes; one for his novel The Bridge of San Luis Rey, and for the two plays Our Town and The Skin of Our Teeth. The stamp features an image of Wilder superimposed over a rural New England  backdrop symbolizing Our Town. The stamp was issued on the 100th anniversary of his birth.
