• History:  This stamp was issued to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rural Free Delivery or RFD (1896 - 1996).  The service was created to deliver mail directly to rural farm families.  Prior to the service, families living in remote homesteads had to pick up mail at the post office or pay to have it delivered.   The stamp features an image of  mail carrier standing in front of his horse and buggy.
