• History: This stamp is part of the United States Postal Service's Christmas Series. Based on a 1310 painting by Italian artist Giotto di Bondone.  Bondone's painting is done in the Italo-Byzantine style which was very popular in the proto-Renaissance era. The painting, "Madonna Enthroned" is also known as the "Ognissanti Madonna" and kept in the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.
