• History:  This stamp was believed to have been proposed but not used for the US 1869 postage series. The exact source of the design is unknown. The stamp features portraits of Presidents George Washington (February 22, 1732 - December 14, 1799) and Andrew Jackson (March 15, 1767 - June 8, 1845). The picture of Washington was taken from a Gilbert Stuart portrait.   Washington's bust was reversed so he would face Jackson. Jackson's image is from a John Wood Dodge portrait.
