History: The Arctic is the polar region found at the northernmost point of the Earth, and is home to some of the coldest places on the planet. The animals that call this remote area home have had to adapt to the freezing environment. The arctic hare is the largest living member of hares and rabbits, weighing up to 15 lbs. Adapting to the cold climates of the Arctic, the arctic fox has a rounded body shape to retain its body heat. One of the largest species of owl is the snowy owl. This bird can weigh up to 7 pounds and feeds on small mammals such as lemmings and rabbits. Spending most of their time at sea hunting seals, the polar bear is the most carnivorous member of the bear family. The gray wolf generally travels in packs of 5-11. These wolves feed on the larger moose and bison of the tundra.
