History: Alfred Hitchcock ( August 1899 - April 29, 1980) "The Master of Suspense" was born in Essex, England, but moved to the United States in 1939 to work in Hollywood. With a career spanning more than 50 years, Hitchcock was a pioneer of the thriller film genre. In 1960, Hitchcock directed his most well known film, Psycho. Many of the attributes, including the intense violence and the early death of the heroine have been copied in horror movies ever since. The film was popular all over the world, and went down as the most profitable black-and-white sound film ever made. Through his career, Hitchcock won an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, and received a Life Achievement Award, among many others. Paving the way for horror films we watch today, Hitchcock will go down as one of the best directors of all time.
