History: Gary Cooper (May 7, 1901 - May 31, 1961) was born in Helena, Montana. He is considered to be one of the most iconic figures in American film history and has appeared in over one hundred films. Cooper began his career as an extra in silent movies and went on to earn a feature role in a 1926 western titled The Winning of Barbara Worth. Throughout his career he played a wide diversity of roles across multiple genres including westerns, comedies, dramas and crime thrillers. Over the course of his career he was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two for his roles in Sergeant York and High Noon. Gary Cooper died in Los Angeles at the age of 60.
