Luini was a very popular artist during his time and is most recognized for his use of religious imagery. It is commonly believed that Bernandino Luini was heavily influenced by Leonardo da Vinci. The Madonna, also known as the Virgin Mary, shown with Christ as an infant was a popular theme in Christian art during the Middle Ages.
