In exchange, the homesteader agreed to reside on the land, cultivate it and make improvements. The Act was ultimately responsible for granting over 270 million acres to the public.

The monument is located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. The site includes some of the first acres granted under the Act. 2015-S Nebraska Homestead National Monument of America National Park Quarter SILVER PROOF

  • Louisiana Kisatchie National Forest

This forest is the only National forest located in Louisiana. It is one of the largest pieces of natural landscape in the state. The forest is over 604 thousand acres and supports many rare plants and animals. It also contains many rare habitats such as hillside seepage bogs and calcareous prairies.

The forest acts as a protective habitat for many of the representative landscapes of northern Louisiana and for many plants and animals, including wild orchids and some carnivorous plants. Over 155 species of breeding birds, 48 species of mammals, 56 species of reptiles and 30 species of amphibians have been identified in the forest. 2015-S Louisiana Kisatchie National Forest National Park Quarter SILVER PROOF

  • North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway, located in North Carolina and Virginia, is the longest linear park in the United States. The parkway was built to connect Shenandoah National Park to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It runs through 2 states and 29 different counties, mostly along Blue Ridge, a major mountain chain in the Appalachian Mountains. Construction of the parkway began in 1935 and was not completed until 52 years later, in 1987. The parkway is not a "National Park", but is under the control of the National Park Service. The parkway has been the most visited unit of the National Park System every year since 1950. 2015-S North Carolina Blue Ridge Parkway National Park Quarter SILVER PROOF

  • Delaware Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge

The 16 thousand acre Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge sits on the eastern coast of Delaware, along the Delaware Bay and located along the bird migration route, the Atlantic Flyway. The refuge was established in 1937 to act as a refuge and breeding ground for the migratory and wintering birds that use the flyway. It was purchased from the local owners using funds from the federal duck stamps.

The primary purpose of the refuge is to protect the habitats for waterfowl and other migratory birds, however the tidal salt marsh that makes up the majority of the refuge is a valuable habitat for many other animals. As such, the water levels in the many impoundments on the refuge are carefully manipulated to maintain an environment that is desirable to the many species of plants and animals that call the refuge home. 2015-S Delaware Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge National Park Quarter SILVER PROOF

  • New York Saratoga National Historical Park

This 3400 acre park is located in Stillwater New York, 40 miles north of Albany. It's primary purpose is to protect the site of the Battles of Saratoga. The Battles of Saratoga were the first major American victory in the American Revolutionary War. In 1777 American forces met a major British army at the site. The British army was defeated and surrendered leading France to recognize the independence of the United States, and then enter the war, becoming a powerful military ally of the American forces.

The park sits on the upper Hudson River, southeast of Saratoga Springs. The Boot Monument to Benedict Arnold is in the park. This is the only United States war memorial that does not contain the name of the honoree. 2015-S New York Saratoga National Historical Park National Park Quarter SILVER PROOF
