We are pleased to offer for sale this Lafayette Dollar Silver Commemorative Coin (1900) in XF-40 or Better Condition.  This Lafayette Silver Dollar was designed by Charles E. Barber and was struck to commemorate the renowned 18th Century French nobleman, the Marquis de Lafeyette.  The obverse of the Lafayette Commemorative Dollar features the heads of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.  This coin was the first one dollar  commemorative coin as well as the first United States coin to bear a portrait of a US president.  The reverse of the Lafayette Silver Commemorative Dollar shows a statue that is similar to the monument of General Lafayette that was erected in Paris as a gift from the American people.  There were only 36,026 of this Lafayette Commemorative Silver Dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint in 1900, making it of great worth and value to the commemorative coin collector.  The Lafayette Memorial Commemorative Coin is comprised of .900 silver and .100 copper (90% Silver), has a diameter of 38.1mm, and weighs 26.73 grams.
