We are pleased to offer for sale this 1976-S Proof American Bicentennial Washington Quarter.  The Quarter is in Gem Proof condition, with nice eye appeal and no major marks or visible problems.  This coin is taken from an original Proof Set, and is an outstanding value!

In 1975 the U.S. Mint began minting Washington Quarters with a special reverse to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Independence of the United States.  They continued through the very end of 1976, which means that all of the 1975 and 1976 Washington Quarters feature the same double 1776-1976 date, with no quarters bearing the year 1975.  The reverse design of the American Bicentennial Washington Quarter was chosen in an open contest with a prize of $5,000 dollars.  The winning design was from Jack L. Ahr, and featured a Colonial drummer with a liberty flame surrounded by 13 stars and the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.

The 1976-S Proof  Washington Quarter is comprised of .916 (91.6%) copper and .083 (8.3%) nickel, with a diameter of 24.26mm and a mass of 5.670 grams with a reeded edge.  It is a beautiful coin in Gem Proof condition, a great value perfect for any Washington Quarter collection.  There were 7,059,099 of the 1976-S Proof American Bicentennial Quarters minted at the San Francisco Mint.
