Washington Memorial (BTW) Half Dollar was designed by Isaac Scott Hathaway and was issued to perpetuate the ideals and teachings of Booker T. Washington. The obverse of the Booker T. Washington Commemorative Half Dollar features a portrait of BTW. The reverse of the 1948 Booker T. Washington Silver Commemorative Half Dollar has the legend FROM SLAVE CABIN TO HALL OF FAME with his log-cabin birthplace pictured below.
