World War II Currency
Emergency Currency Issues
Why
Emergency Issues Notes?
Emergency Currency was issued in Hawaii and North Africa
during World War II because Military Officials
believed that in the event of an invasion or take-over enemy forces
could seize a large amount of US Currency. To avoid this
regular US Currency in both regions was recalled and emergency notes were
subbed out. If an invasion or take-over did occur the US
could immediately declare the emergency issue notes worthless.
