• History: This stamp sheet celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Rural Electrification Administration, a New Deal agency to bring power to rural areas of the United States. Prior to the act, about 90% of farms in the United States had no access to electricity, putting the United States at a disadvantage with Western Europe. In less than twenty years after the beginning of the REA, almost 100% of American farms were connected to a power grid.
