• History: This stamp sheet was issued two months in advance of the 1984 Summer Olympics, held in Los Angeles, California. This was the first time in 52 years that the United States hosted the Summer Olympics (the last time, 1932, having also been in Los Angeles). The 1984 Summer Olympics were boycotted by 14 Eastern Bloc countries, in response to an American-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. The United States finished the summer games with 174 medals, having won more gold, silver, and bronze medals than any other competitor.
