There were only 30,000 of thisAlabama Centennial 2x2 Silver Half Dollar minted at the Philadelphia Mint in 1921. The 2x2 stands for "2x2" in Field of obverse. This Alabama Centennial Silver Half Dollar was designed by Laura Garden Fraser. The coin was struck to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the statehood of Alabama in 1919. The obverse of the Alabama Centennial Commemorative Half Dollar features busts of William Wyatt Bibb, first governor of Alabama, and T.E. Kilby, governor at the time of the centennial. The Alabama Centennial Silver Commemorative Half Dollar is the first instance of the use of a living person's portrait on a United States coin.
