• History: Horror films and supernatural thrillers have been made since the late 1800's.  The first film credited in this genre was Le Manoir du Diable by Georges Méliès.  During the 1920's, Lon Chaney became the first actor known for his roles in horror flicks such as The Phantom of the Opera, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Monster among others.  Make-up artists of the 1930's and 40's added a Gothic theme to the movies.  This allowed actors like Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi to create careers acting in just one genre. The monsters on this stamp sheet will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.
