- History: The Eid Greetings stamp sheet commemorates two holidays of the Islamic religion. Islam is the 3rd most practiced religion in America behind Christianity and Judaism. The two holidays, Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha, are related to other events in the Islamic calendar, the events being Ramadan and Dhu al-Hijja, respectively. "Eid Al-Fitr" translates to mean "the Feast of Breaking the Fast". It is celebrated on the conclusion of Ramadan where the Muslim community fasts from sunrise to sunset for a 30 day period. "Eid al-Adha" celebrates the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca. Mecca is believed to be the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad and each Muslim is required to make a journey there at least once within his or her lifetime.
