History: Polar Lights is a term used regarding both the Aurora Borealis in the Northern Hemisphere and the Aurora Australis in the Southern Hemisphere. An aurora, meaning "sunrise" in Latin, is a natural light display in the sky in the high latitude, specifically the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Collisions of energetic charged particles with atoms in high altitude atmosphere create this phenomenon. Counterparts of each other, the Aurora Borealis, commonly referred to as the Northern Lights, and the Aurora Australis exist as duplicates in the skies.
