History: The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet that tells the story of a Christmas Eve celebration. It centers around a young girl named Clara. When the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve Clara's strange events are set into motion. At first Clara is scared as giant mice threaten to attack her. All of a sudden toy soldiers come to Clara's aide, they are led by the Nutcracker. After the giant mice have been dealt with the Nutcracker turns into a prince. The prince magically transforms Clara's house into the land of snow and they set off on an adventure. Act II centers around Clara's journey with the prince as they cross the Lemonade Sea into the Kingdom of Sweets and meet the Sugar Plum Fairy. The Nutcracker has enjoyed enormous popularity as a Christmas event in Western Nations since the 1940s.
