Spiderman was created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko. The Spiderman series first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15 in August of 1962. Spiderman is about an orphan who is raised by his aunt and uncle, while juggling the struggles of adolescence and his new found super powers.  When Spiderman first appeared in the early 1960's, teenagers in superhero costumes were generally the sidekick or the protagonist.  Unlike previous teen heroes, Spiderman did not have a mentor to teach him.  He was forced to learn for him self that "with great power there must also come great responsibility."
