There were only 27,134 of this Panama Pacific Commemorative Half Dollar minted at the San Francisco (S) Mint. This 1915 Panama Pacific Exposition Silver Commemorative Half Dollar was designed by Charles E. Barber (obv) & George T. Morgan (rev). The Panama-Pacific Half Dollar was struck to commemorate exposotion held in San Francisco in 1915 to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. The obverse of the coin shows a representaion of Columbia with the golden gate in the background. The reverse design is based of the Illinois state seal. The reverse of the Panama-Pacific Exposition Silver Commemorative Half Dollar shows a bald eagle perched on a crest with the words "IN GOD WE TRUST" above. This coin was the first commemorative coin to carry this motto.
