This variety of Jefferson Nickel (1942-1945) is the Wartime Silver Alloy Variety.  This variety of Jefferson Nickel was introduced to eliminate nickel, a critical wartime alloy.  These Jefferson War Nickels weigh 5 grams and are comprised of .560 copper, .350 silver, and .090 manganese. The War Nickels have a diameter of 21.2mm with a plain edge and are of great worth and value to the collector trying to fill a hole in their Jefferson Nickel Set.
